Giselle is a romantic ballet in two acts that tells the story of a kind-hearted peasant girl who falls deeply in love with Albrecht, a nobleman disguised as a villager. When she discovers he is already promised to another woman, the shock drives her to madness and she dies of a broken heart. In the moonlit second act, Giselle joins the Wilis—ghostly spirits of betrayed women who lure faithless men to dance until they die—but her enduring love and forgiveness compel her to protect Albrecht from their vengeful queen. As dawn breaks, Giselle's spirit returns to her grave, leaving Albrecht alive and redeemed, in a poignant tale of love, betrayal, forgiveness and the power of selfless devotion.
